At The Great Tythe Barn, we take sustainability seriously.

During our latest refurbishment, we took every step to make our site as energy-efficient and ecologically sustainable as possible.

When you book your event at the Great Tythe Barn, you can rest assured you’re doing your best for the environment too.

Recent sustainability improvements include:

New thermally-efficient doors and windows in the threshing bays
A new energy-efficient heating system, including three air handling units, larger radiators and better use of the underfloor heating
A green bar roof that allows native species to flourish and protects biodiversity throughout the site
Carpets made from recycled plastic bottles
Exterior cladding with locally-sourced timber (rather than wood that has travelled long distances)
A new electric boiler to provide all our hot water
New air source heat pumps to heat The Great Tythe Barn, reduce our gas consumption by 85% and make us more self-sufficient

Now the refurbishment is finished, the only natural gas we use is when cooking in the kitchens. In the future, we plan to convert our

kitchens to fully electric, so we’ll never need to use gas again.

Other future sustainability plans include:

Solar panels in the field at the far end of the car park, which will produce 36% of the energy we use
Battery storage to conserve solar energy during the day for when we need it at night
The ability to sell surplus power back to the National Grid when we’re not staging events
